Maureen was named the Rural Health Hero in 2015 by the MN Rural Health Association due to her longtime commitment to rural health initiatives. She is actively involved with public policy related to gaining broader Telehealth insurance coverage and provided testimony to influence the 2015 Telemedicine Laws in ND and MN. Maureen has been instrumental in developing over 30 rural originating Telehealth sites across MN, WI and ND at hospitals, clinics and long term care facilities and more than 30 specialty outreach services across Essentia Health. Since 2011 she has served as the System Director of Telehealth for Essentia Health-Duluth, MN.
She also chaired the Greater MN Telehealth and Broadband Initiative from 2007-2015, which brought $5.4 million into MN under the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Universal Services (USAC) project providing discounted broadband for healthcare facilities. She worked with many state and federal grants, such as those awarded from the Office for the Advancement of Telehealth (OAT) with the University of MN and from the USDA-Distance Learning and Telemedicine.
